The Midvale Youth Ambassador program is a service-based leadership scholarship program for young adults.  The Midvale Youth Ambassador Scholarship rewards students for their academic achievements, leadership abilities, community involvement (both past and planned), and peer inspiration; and enables youth to positively influence the Midvale community.  The Ambassador serves and is a representative of Midvale City for a full year, from August though the next July.

Qualifications:
*Applicants must either be residents of Midvale City, or demonstrate significant service to Midvale City.
*Applicants must be between the ages of 17-24 on August 1 of the application year.
*Applicants must be enrolled or accepted at an accredited college, university, or trade school at the time of application, or be a senior in high school for the immediately forthcoming academic year.
*The school (college, university, trade school, or high school) the applicant will be attending in the immediately forthcoming academic year must be within 60 driving miles of Midvale City, so if chosen as ambassador the applicant would be able to be involved with Midvale City throughout the year.

Application Process:
Each applicant will complete and turn in the application packet, along with their letter of recommendation and school transcripts (see information in application packet). A panel of judges representing the Midvale Arts Council and other interested individuals will do a blind review of each application to narrow the field to no more than eight applicants.  The remaining eight applicants will be interviewed to determine final selection.  The application can be downloaded here.  Applications for the 2011-2012 Youth Ambassadors will be due before June 30, 2011 at 6pm.  They can be turned in at the Midvale City offices.

Scholarship:
Each ambassador will be awarded at $1000 scholarship check made out to the school he or she will be attending.  Up to four scholarships will be awarded.

Responsibilities:
Throughout the year, the ambassadors will help with and preside over community events such as Harvest Days, parades, ribbon-cutting ceremonies, groundbreakings, and city council meetings.  It should be noted that every recipient will not be required to attend every event.  Each revipient's specific respondibilities wlil be outlined at the time of the scholarship award.

Service:
Each scholarship applicant must select a theme for their tenure as a Midvale City Youth Ambassador.  Scholarship winners will be expected to plan and carry out a community service project or program based on the theme you select.  This will be an incredible opportunity for you to spearhead a project with an entire city backing you up.  Examples are "Teen Pregnancy Prevention" or "Arts for Every Citizen" or "A Better Future for Midvale Through Increased Childhood Literacy."  Choose your theme carefully.  Make it something you're passionate about, and something that addresses the specific needs of Midvale City.

Applications for 2010-2011 Ambassadors will be accepted through June 2010.
